No Politics at Dinner: Advisors Aren’t Talking ESG with Clients

The term “ESG” — referring to the use of environmental, social and governance metrics in investment decisions — may have seeped into more conversations around the kitchen table in recent years, but the phenomenon is not so much attributable to financial advisors as it is to political media. Advisors’ hesitancy to dedicate time learning and presenting a new investing strategy is reinforced by regulatory uncertainty and political pitfalls, said Neil Bathon, managing partner at FUSE Research. But he added that client clout can negate any hesitancy.
